1. Who you are dealing with

The Joshua Tree Crater Company, part of ExplOrbit, based in Morongo Valley, California, United States. Contact: jtcratercompany@gmail.com. Using this site or placing an order means you accept these terms.

2. What you are buying

You are buying a physical gift set and a dedication recorded in the JT Crater Company Registry, a record kept solely by us, tied to one real, IAU-catalogued lunar crater and printed on a certificate.

3. What you are not buying

This is the important one, so it is in bold. You are not buying ownership of, title to, or any legal interest in any part of the Moon. Under the 1967 Outer Space Treaty no nation, company or person can own lunar territory, so nobody has it to sell, including us.

You are not buying an official name. Lunar nomenclature is decided solely by the International Astronomical Union, which does not sell naming rights to anyone at any price. The crater keeps its official catalogued name. Your dedication sits alongside it in the JT Crater Company Registry, not in theirs, and any company claiming otherwise is misleading you.

4. Exclusivity, and what we promise

We promise that each of the 1615 craters in our catalogue is dedicated once and only once through us, that we will never resell a dedicated crater, and that your registry entry is permanent for as long as we exist. Twelve craters are released for dedication each day and we will not quietly widen that pool to sell more.

5. Orders and payment

Prices are in US dollars and shown before you pay. Payment is taken by Stripe, and placing an order is an offer that we accept when we dispatch. If a crater is claimed by someone else in the seconds before your payment clears, we will contact you to pick another or refund you in full, your choice.

6. Your dedication content

You are responsible for what you write. Do not submit anything unlawful, hateful, threatening, obscene, or infringing someone else's rights, and do not use someone's name in a way that would harass them. We read every dedication before anything is published, and we may refuse or edit one that breaks this clause. If we refuse yours, we will contact you to change it, and refund you in full if we cannot agree.

By ticking the public registry box you give us permission to display that name and message on your crater's page. You can withdraw that permission at any time by emailing us, and we will unpublish it.

7. Shipping and returns

Covered in full on the shipping and returns page, which forms part of these terms. In short: free US shipping, no change-of-mind returns because each set is personalised and retires a crater, and full replacement or refund if it arrives damaged or is lost in transit.

8. Our liability

We are responsible for getting you the goods you paid for and for the accuracy of the crater data we print. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability for any order is limited to what you paid for it. Nothing here removes rights you have under US consumer law that cannot legally be removed.

9. Intellectual property

The artwork, text, photography and design on this site belong to us. The crater names, coordinates, diameters and naming histories come from the IAU Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature and are public record. You may print and keep your own certificate forever, obviously.

10. Changes and governing law

We may update these terms; the version that applies to your order is the one published when you placed it. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California.
